MLB: Jim Leyrtiz arrested for battery in South Florida

DAVIE, Fla. — Authorities say former major leaguer Jim Leyritz has been arrested for battery in South Florida, two months before he faces trial for a DUI manslaughter charge.
Broward County Jail spokeswoman Keyla Concepcion said Leyritz was booked Thursday at 7:17 a.m. after an incident in Davie, a Fort Lauderdale suburb. She could not provide additional details. A message was left with Davie police.
The 45-year-old Leyritz played for six teams in 11 major league seasons, including a stint with the New York Yankees in which he hit a memorable 1996 World Series home run. He is scheduled to go to trial Sept. 14 for a fatal December 2007 crash in Fort Lauderdale.
Leyritz's attorney, J. David Bogenschutz, did not immediately return a message seeking comment.
