State closing two upslope parks early to keep fireworks out

The state Department of Parks and Recreation yesterday said that Pu'u Ualaka'a (Round Top) and Wa'ahila Ridge state parks will close at 4 p.m. Saturday, the Fourth of July holiday.
"We are closing these parks early to discourage use of fireworks, which is prohibited, and to protect the public and natural resources there," DLNR chairwoman Laura H. Thielen said in a statement.
The parks will resume normal hours Sunday, opening at 7 a.m. and closing at 7:45 p.m.
DLNR also is reminding the public that consumption of alcohol and setting off fireworks are prohibited within all state parks, forest reserves, unencumbered lands and small-boat harbors.
All vessels, including thrillcraft and kayaks, must stay 300 yards away from land-based and floating fireworks launch sites for their own safety, a DLNR news release said.
