A rare Karate exhibit opens today at the University of Hawaii Manoa’s Hamilton library.

A rare Karate exhibit will be held at the University of Hawaii Manoa’s Hamilton library.
“Karate: From Okinawa to Hawaii,” features historical karate images, Okinawa weapons and karate articles from prewar Hawaii provided by the Hawaii Karate Museum.
The exhibit runs until August 28, with free admission during library hours.
There will also be a lecture given by Charles C. Goodin on the early transmission of Karate from Okinawa to Hawaii at 3 p.m. on July 19 at the library in room 301.
A live karate demonstration by the Hawaii Karate Kenkyukai will be from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. on July 12 at UHM’s art department auditorium.
The exhibit is sponsored by the Center for Okinawan Studies, Center for Japanese Studies, Consulate General of Japan in Honolulu and the UHM library.
Library hours are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Fridays, 12 to 6 p.m. on Sundays and closed on Saturdays. For more information call 956-7204.
