Megan Tinnin made a layup with 17.5 seconds left to give the University of Hawai'i women's basketball team a 63-61 victory over Utah State last night in Logan, Utah.

The victory snaps the Rainbow Wahine's eight-game losing streak and gives them their first road win and WAC win of the year.

With the score tied at 61-61, Dita Liepkalne took the ball at the top of the key and found a cutting Tinnin on the block, who made the layup for the lead. Utah State had two attempts in the closing seconds, but both a 3-pointer and a jumper came up short.

UH improved to 4-16 overall and 1-6 in conference play. Utah State dropped to 10-11 overall and 4-4 in WAC action.

Tinnin led the Rainbow Wahine with a season-high 22 points, going 8-for-12 from the field, including a 4 of 7 effort from 3-point range.

Lyndra Littles scored 30 points and Monica Wright had 28 as the Cavaliers (17-4, 4-2 Atlantic Coast Conference) beat the Terrapins (16-4, 4-2) in Charlottesville, Va.

Shavonte Zellous scored 31 points and the Panthers (16-4, 6-2 Big East) won their fifth straight in beating the Golden Eagles (12-9, 3-4) at Pittsburgh.

NO. 13 BUTLER 59, VALPARAISO 51

Gordon Hayward scored 18 points and Willie Veasley had 13 as the Bulldogs (19-1, 10-0 Horizon League) beat the Crusaders (6-16, 3-8) in Indianapolis.

ELSEWHERE

Saint Mary's: Guard Patty Mills will miss at least four weeks after breaking two bones in his right hand during the Gaels' loss to Gonzaga on Thursday night. Mills, the Australian sophomore who leads the Gaels with 18.7 points per game, was hurt just before halftime in No. 22 Saint Mary's 69-62 loss at Gonzaga. He scored 18 points before getting hurt while attempting to break a fall.
