Chelsey Goo has evolved into the complete package.

As a freshman on the Mililani High School girls soccer team, Goo was primarily a passer and midfielder. Her role changed over the years and in her senior year this season, Goo has provided the Trojans with leadership and that scoring touch.

Goo scored four goals in three games last week, helping Mililani capture the O'ahu Interscholastic Association Red Conference championship.

Goo scored twice in Thursday's 3-0 win over Roosevelt in the quarterfinals, which clinched a state berth for the Trojans. She scored a goal in Mililani's 2-0 win over Kapolei in Friday's semifinals and had another goal in Saturday's 3-0 win over Kahuku in the title game.

The Trojans won their 11th OIA title with two coming at the bookends of Goo's career. Goo also won an OIA title during her freshman year.

"She's one of our team captains and the players look to her for guidance and experience," Mililani coach Ray Akiona said. "She's a four-year letterman on our team, been with the varsity for the last four years, she's fun to be with.

"The kids enjoy hanging out with her. In the same respect, she's a competitive person. She's just that factor that brings the whole package to our game."

Goo scored 17 goals this season, second-most in the OIA. Though marked heavily at times by opponents, Goo's vision allowed her to find open teammates.

"She has the reputation of being a scorer and that has put more pressure on her," Akiona said. "She's gifted on seeing the field. As soon as she gets double teamed, she passes to teammates who are open and in a better position.

"She's not concerned about scoring. She's more concerned about the team scoring as a unit. Having the extra defense, it's amazing she can find people who are open and get passes to them."

Goo and Jackie Suan were freshmen on Mililani's championship team in 2006. The past few years, Goo played alongside forwards who had already committed to colleges or were on their way to commitments. This year, she moved into their roles.

"This year is when she really started to step up and took on more of a scoring role for the team," Akiona said. "Previously she was more of a halfback and distributor, had great passing skills, pinpoint accuracy on long balls.

"It was a change for her but not out of her comfort zone."

The Division I and II state tournaments start next Wednesday at the Waipi'o Peninsula Soccer Complex.
