Burns on kids' bodies described

Advertiser Staff

A 6-year-old girl and her 4-year-old brother bore second-degree burns consistent with injuries from a clothes iron when Honolulu police arrested their mother last week, according to court records.

The 29-year-old mother was arrested Thursday on suspicion of second-degree assault at the Kalihi office of Parents And Children Together. A PACT counselor told police that the mother had used a clothes iron to burn her children, according to a police affidavit filed in court.

The boy had severe burns on his back and left arm and told police the burns were caused by his mother using a clothes iron on him, according to the affidavit.

His sister had a large scab over her left ring finger and pinkie finger consistent with burn injuries. Officials at her school told police that the girl also had a long scab on her left calf consistent with a burn.

Paramedics told police that both children had suffered second-degree burns.
