3 Hawaii companies fined for violating clean-air rules

Three Hawai'i companies have been fined by the state Department of Health's Clean Air Branch for failing to comply with state and federal standards.
Pineridge Farms Inc., which operates stone-crushing and processing plants at various locations on O'ahu, was cited for failing in 2007 to test its diesel engine generators for visible emissions.
It also failed in 2007 to test two of its portable crushing plants for emissions performance.
The company has paid two penalties of $4,600 each.
Maui Paving LLC exceeded particulate matter emissions at its asphalt plant on Moloka'i during a test in February 2008.
The company has paid $4,300 for the self-reported violation.
P.B. Sullivan Inc., a Maui-based construction company, failed in 2007 to test its diesel engine generator for visible emissions.
The company also failed to test its mobile crushing machine for emissions performance.
The company has paid a $3,000 penalty for the violations.
