Chinese junk open for tours at Ala Wai

Advertiser Staff

The Princess Taiping, a working replica of a 14th-century Chinese warship, is offering free tours this weekend and next.

Walk-in visitors are welcome aboard from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today, and next Friday through Sunday.

The 54-foot, 35-ton junk will be docked at the Ala Wai Boat Harbor for the next two weeks before returning home to Taiwan.

Capt. Nelson Liu and a crew of eight successfully sailed the ship, constructed in strict accordance with specifications found in texts dating back to the Ming dynasty, from Taiwan to California over 69 days late last year.
