Bishop Museum honors its founder

Bishop Museum is celebrating its founder's birthday with free admission from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. tomorrow.
Charles Reed Bishop, born Jan. 25, 1822, opened the museum to honor his late wife, Princess Bernice Pauahi Bishop, the last descendant of King Kamehameha I's royal line, and protect ali'i possessions.
In addition to opening the museum, Bishop was a consultant and privy councilor to five generations of Hawaiian monarchs, as well as a legislator and government official for the Kingdom of Hawai'i. He died in 1915.
The museum will dedicate the newly renovated founder's exhibit tomorrow, which focuses on the story of Charles Reed and Princess Bernice Pauahi Bishop.
