MAKAHA
Eku Stream clearing effort is to begin today
National Guard troops are scheduled to use a heavy equipment to clear a massive wall of branches, rocks, dirt and other debris from Eku Stream off Maiu'u Road in Makaha beginning today.
The state Civil Defense effort is being done to clear the stream of the huge buildup that cut off the water flow during the December rain and caused flooding to area homes, said Civil Defense spokesman Ray Lovell.
Sgt. Lester Saito, who led a team that did preliminary clearing of the stream bed yesterday, said the cleanup will take about two days to complete.
The project is one of several Civil Defense stream projects on the Wai'anae Coast to clear debris from the December flooding.
