The University of Hawai'i-Manoa Historic Costume Collection and Kaka'ako gift and jewelry boutique Rabbitt in Paradise present "Visual Delights," a show of vintage garments, art, Ecolicious art totes and jewelry. Garments dating from the 1920s to the 1980s will be on display from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, from tomorrow through Feb. 14, in the lobby gallery of Pauahi Tower, 1001 Bishop St. The garments will be complemented with the jewelry of C.J. Rabbitt and Jack Kravitz. An opening reception will be held from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Jan. 22.

The UH Costume Collection consists of an astounding 18,000 garments, textiles and related artifacts. The collection is housed in the Apparel Product Design and Merchandising department in Miller Hall. With pieces dating back to 1850, deterioration will take place unless these treasures can be stored properly. Fundraising activities seek to supply acid-free paper and boxes, a digital camera for documentation, repair supplies, mannequins, a computer and scanner.

THE ULTIMATE SHOPPING EXPERIENCE

Calling all shopaholics! Watermark Publishing, Fashionista's Market, Honolulu Design Center and Honolulu Magazine are partnering up to offer a day of shopping, seminars and prizes.

From 9 to 10 a.m. Jan. 24, in the Honolulu Design Center, it's a VIP-only shopping hour. The $25 ticket includes a copy of Kathryn Drury Wagner's book, "The Ultimate Guide to Shopping on O'ahu" and a goodie bag. The event, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., is free and open to the public.

The shopping opportunities include Global Village, Fabulocity, Ginger 13, Muumuu Heaven and Little Sprouts. In addition, there will be 20-minute seminars by fashion folks such as Pam Chambers, Debbie AhChick-Hopkins, Jennifer Kem and Blaine Ashley. COOKIE COUTURE OPENS

The mother-daughter team of Christina and Darcy Cook just opened Cookie Couture, a place for fun, flirty and affordable women's wear. With dress prices averaging $44, and nothing priced at more than $100, it's clearly fashionista friendly.

The retail-savvy duo makes monthly treks to L.A. to buy hip and often unheard-of-here designers. Mother and daughter both have extensive retail experience. Mom is the co-founder of Bebe and Bebe Sport and during the '90s she owned 17 stores. Christina, 24, has been working in retail since her teen years. She buys for customers in her age range, while mom goes to market with the 50-plus woman in mind.

Shells are going to be a significant trend this spring and summer. We saw them on the runways in a variety of forms, on clothing, shoes and accessories. The little gifts from the sea offer a hint of hippie chic. And of course they're especially appropriate for our Island style.
