The lowdown: Ed Harris stars in, directed, co-wrote and produced this no-frills Western about two friends who as lawmen-for-hire bring a powerful rancher to justice for murder.

The story is slow at times, but the relationship between Harris and Viggo Mortensen is the cement that binds the story.

"Appaloosa" ambled into theaters on Sept. 19. Made for a lean $20 million, it earned $20 million at the box office domestically and picked up another $5.8 million overseas.
