Anna Ranch Heritage Center and the University of Hawai'i-Hilo's Anthropology Department are offering Museology 470 at the historic Waimea ranch.

The three-credit class will be held 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays from Jan. 17 to May 9. Students may either audit the course or take it for credit. Jan. 16 is the last day to register.

The course will cover the history of Waimea, with particular focus on the area's ranching history. Students will work with the collections at Anna Ranch and learn to inventory, catalog and research the provenance of items collected by the late Anna Leialoha Lindsey Perry-Fiske, a rancher and patron of community charities.

Issues surrounding heritage tourism also will be explored by the instructor, cultural anthropologist Momi Naughton.

The class also will be valuable to those interested in organizing their own family archives and photographs, according to a news release.
