The University of Hawai'i-West O'ahu held a blessing on the grounds of its new Kapolei campus today.

The first phase will sit on 41 acres makai of Farrington Highway near the new North-South Road and will consist of a classroom building, administrative building, library, campus center and maintenance building.

It is expected to be ready to serve more than 1,500 students beginning in spring 2011.

Today's ceremony paid tribute to UH-West O'ahu's three-decade history.

The new campus coincides with UH-West O'ahu's recent switch to a four-year baccalaureate program.
