Advertiser Staff

WAILUKU, Maui — A free celebration to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day and the inauguration of President-elect Barack Obama will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday in Wailuku town.

Opening ceremonies will take place at the Stone of Hope Monument on the grounds of the Kalana O Maui county building at 200 High St. The monument was erected last year to honor King's life, legacy and work.

A silent march from Main Street to Market Street will commemorate the 1963 March on Washington where King delivered his "I Have a Dream" speech.

The celebration will continue throughout the day at Cafe Marc Aurel on North Market Street. The event is sponsored by the nonprofit Arts Education for Children Group. For more information visit www.aecg.org or phone 283-3576.
