Georgia prog pop rockers Of Montreal are coming to Honolulu for a one-night only show. local concert promoter Ara Laylo said today.
The concert is scheduled to take place Feb. 21 at Chinatown's NextDoor.
Myopenbar.com, an entertainment Web site dedicated to scouting out venues and
events that offer free or cheap booze is
co-sponsoring the show. Myopenbar.com is a national online service that
launched a Honolulu edition of the site last year.
Laylo has also brought to the Islands a number of indie band cult favorites, such as Menomena, Mates of State and Deerhoof.
Of Montreal performed in Honolulu in 2004 and since then has enjoyed increased popularity, thanks to a frenzy of media attention over the past year.
Fronted by the notably flamboyant (in a "Ziggy Stardust" kind of way) Kevin Barnes, the band released its 15th album last year to much critical acclaim, pulling the band from the indie rock shadows into the mainstream light.
Of Montreal's latest album, "Skeletal Lamping," was rated one of the best albums of 2008 by "Rolling Stone" and "Paste" magazines.
Tickets for the concert are $20 and are on sale now at www.enterprise.bigcartel.com.
Admission is for those 18 and older.
