Police closed off a section of Kipapa Drive near The Shack restaurant in Mililani for about an hour this morning after a possible propane gas leak was reported.
Capt. Terry Seelig, spokesman for the Honolulu Fire Department, said firefighters and police evacuated about 50 or 60 people from adjacent businesses and a preschool across the street beginning about 8:10 a.m. while the situation was be assessed.
"It turned out to be a leaking supply line into The Shack — it was leaking a small amount of liquefied petroleum gas," Seelig said.
Firefighters were able to stem most of the leak with duct tape until a crew from the Gas Company arrived to make permanent repairs.
There were no injuries during the incident, Seelig said.
