Wearing safety equipment, technicians from The Gas Company repair a propane leak behind a restaurant at the Mililani Shopping Center. The leak was detected by Honolulu firefighters stationed next door who were changing shifts around 8 a.m. As a precaution a preschool across the street was evacuated as well as businesses adjacent to the restaurant. Part of Kipapa Drive in front of the restaurant was closed by the Honolulu Police Department. The firefighters used tape to make a temporary repair to what was said to be a leaking gas line. An HFD Hazmat unit later determined that the released gas levels were not a fire hazard and displaced persons were allowed to return after the arrive of gas company repair crews.
