Mike Scioscia, who's managed the Los Angeles Angels to four division titles in the past five years, received a contract extension that could keep him with the team through the 2012 season.

Scioscia, 50, had been under contract through next season and the Angels held a club option for 2010 at an estimated $2 million, according to MLB.com.

The Angels, whose 100-62 record last season was the best in Major League Baseball, didn't disclose terms of the extension.

"It shows our level of commitment not only to Mike, but to our fans, as far as the stability of winning is concerned," Angels General Manager Tony Reagins said, according to MLB.com. "If you look at what he's done over the nine years he's been here, he's one of the top two or three most productive managers in the game."

Scioscia has an 803-655 record with the Angels and in 2002 led the franchise to its only World Series championship. His .551 career winning percentage is second among active managers behind Bobby Cox of the Atlanta Braves.

The Angels have won the American League Western Division titles under Scioscia four times since 2004. The franchise won just three division titles in 39 seasons before Scioscia took over as manager in 2000.
