ANAHEIM, Calif. — Yamaha rookie Josh Grant won the AMA Supercross opener Saturday night, beating Honda's Andrew Sharp in front of 42,309 fans at Angel Stadium.
"I don't know what to say right now," said Grant, from Riverside. "To get my first win out of the way is huge, and I am so pumped."
Defending series champion Chad Reed finished third in his Suzuki debut. Reed left Yamaha at the end of last season.
Kawasaki's Jake Weimer won the Western Regional AMA Supercross Lites race.
"This was a great start to the season," said Weimer, from Rupert, Idaho. "It couldn't be any better than tonight. I look forward to a great season."
