A falling tree branch outside a Kaka'ako condominium building hit and critically injured an elderly woman yesterday.

A spokesman for the city Department of Emergency Services said officials responded to a call at 11:12 a.m. for the incident outside 1133 Waimanu St.

The woman was taken to an area hospital.

Some residents said they suspected that high winds may have contributed to the branch falling. Winds around O'ahu yesterday were reported in the 10 to 15 mph range, with gusts of about 20 mph.
