73-year-old basketball player ruled ineligible

Associated Press

HARRIMAN, Tenn. — The career of the man believed to be the oldest basketball player in history appears to be over.

The National Junior College Athletics Association has ruled 73-year-old Ken Mink ineligible to play for Roane State as the team prepares for the Tennessee Junior College Athletic Association tournament.

Mink told The Knoxville News Sentinel that the association declared him ineligible because of problems by the school in reporting a change to the academic courses he was taking. The association turned down an appeal by Roane State.

Roane State was ordered to forfeit a game against Hiwassee, one in which Mink scored two points.

Mink played at Lees College in Jackson, Ky., 52 years ago, but was expelled after someone soaped the coach's office.
