AUSTIN, Texas — Texas safety Ishie Oduegwu is giving up football after a series of shoulder injuries.
The senior from Denton played in 25 games during his Longhorns career but missed all of the 2008 season after shoulder surgery.
Oduegwu said Thursday he decided to quit playing after four surgeries and in consultation with doctors. He made his only three career starts in 2007 before getting hurt in the final regular-season game against Texas A&M. He had 35 career tackles.
The Longhorns start spring practice Friday.
