LOS ANGELES — Boston Celtics guard Gabe Pruitt has apologized after being arrested in Los Angeles on suspicion of drunken driving.
Los Angeles police Officer April Harding says Pruitt was pulled over in Hollywood shortly after 3 a.m. Thursday and later booked on suspicion of misdemeanor driving under the influence.
"I sincerely apologize for my actions which have caused unnecessary embarrassment to my family, my team, and the Celtics organization," Pruitt said later Thursday in a statement issued by the team. "I used poor judgment and I am really disappointed in myself."
The Celtics had lost 93-91 to the Los Angeles Clippers a few hours earlier. Pruitt is from the Los Angeles area and played college basketball for Southern California.
"I understand what an extraordinary opportunity it is to play in the NBA and how fortunate I am to be a member of the Celtics," he said. "I am sorry to my team, my family, the fans and everyone who believes in me. I made a mistake and I have learned a valuable lesson."
