The 2009 class of defensive backs did not light up the track at the NFL scouting combine Tuesday, but there were some impressive performances nonetheless.

Nicholls State S Lardarius Webb. No defensive back helped himself more. This college safety projects at corner based on his workout. He had the best 40-yard dash, three-cone drill and 20-yard shuttle.

Illinois CB Vontae Davis. He might challenge Malcolm Jenkins for the top corner taken on the strength of his workout. Davis ran a 4.49-second 40-yard dash, was best among corners with 25 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press and was impressive in positional drills.

Notre Dame S David Bruton. He was easily the best testing safety with a 10.96 60-yard shuttle and an 11-foot broad jump (both tops at his position), a 41.5-inch vertical jump and a 6.60 three-cone drill (both of which tied for best among safeties) and a 4.46 40-yard dash. No one expected that from Bruton.

Western Michigan S Louis Delmas. A good all-around workout probably locked him in as the top overall safety in the draft. He also likely helped himself by interviewing well.

Clemson S Chris Clemons. He moved explosively in drills and ran a 4.41 40-yard dash, best among safeties.

Ohio State CB Malcolm Jenkins. He ran a disappointing 4.56 40-yard dash, leading some teams to question if he wouldn't be better off at safety.

USC CB Cary Harris. His stock had been on the rise since the East-West game, but he ran a 4.65 40-yard dash and looked ordinary in drills.

USC S Kevin Ellison. A 4.88 40-yard dash will not help his cause.
