BOSTON — Northeastern University's tight end Brian Mandeville has been sent home from the NFL Combine in Indianapolis after doctors discovered an abnormal heart valve.

The Boston Globe reported on Sunday that doctors who found the condition during a routine physical exam told Mandeville that playing football and lifting weights could put him at risk.

The condition is not considered life-threatening.

The 6-foot-6 Mandeville, who grew up in Walpole, Mass., learned of the diagnosis Friday.

He was considered as one of the top small-school prospects in the NFL draft.

Mandeville caught 63 passes for 863 yards and seven touchdowns over three seasons. Last year, he had 24 receptions for 337 yards and two touchdowns in eight games.
