Hawai'i Golf Hall of Famer Bev Kim was inducted into Mid-Pacific Institute's M Club Athletic Hall of Fame Friday at the fifth annual "Gala."

Kim, a member of the MPI Class of 1964, took up golf at age 11 and grew up playing at Hawai'i Country Club (Kunia). Her mentors included Guinea Kop, Hope Yee and Bea Luke.

Still active competitively, Kim has won nearly all the women's invitationals in Hawai'i, many several times. She captured the Waialae Women's Invitational in five straight decades, winning her first as a 15-year-old in 1961. She played at the University of Oregon as an individual, representing the Ducks at tournaments in 1967 and '68.

After returning home and graduating from the University of Hawai'i, Kim continued to compete at the highest level in Hawai'i and at Mainland events. She has captured all three of the Hawai'i women's majors, winning the State Stroke Play in 1972 — to break Joan Damon's streak of five in a row — then the Jennie K. in 1981 and the State Match Play in 1971, '72 and 1996, at age 50.

Kim was inducted into the Hawai'i Golf Hall of Fame in 2003. A year later, Golf Week magazine named her one of Hawai'i's "golf legends."

Also inducted into the MPI Hall of Fame was distance runner Stein Rafto ('74) and Kenichi Zenimura, who was honored posthumously. Zenimura played baseball at Mills School (later MPI) from 1918 to 1920, and is considered the father of Nisei baseball in California.
