Grammy-winning slack-key guitarist Cyril Pahinui kicks off the Talk Story Series at Windward Community College 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. today at Paliku Theatre. Pahinui will perform signature songs and share stories about his life and music. The event is free and open to the public.
The Talk Story Series was created to promote Hawaiian music events and courses, and to recognize Hawaiian music masters of the Windward side. Slack-key guitar and hula classes are offered at the college by the Hawaii Music Institute; 235-7433, http://ocet.wcc.hawaii.edu.

Rabbit Kekai is on dry land for this month's Surf Discussion Series at Chinatown Boardroom, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. today at the gallery and surfboard shop, 1160 Nu'uanu Ave. The event is one of the Honolulu Arts District's Third Thursday events. The world-renowned surfer, beach boy and coach is known as one of the first hot-doggers who revolutionized surfing.
