HAWAI'I KAI
Rep. Ward hosting town meeting on coqui frogs
State Rep. Gene Ward will host a town hall meeting tonight to talk about coqui frogs in east Honolulu.
The meeting starts at 7 p.m. in the Hahaione Elementary School cafeteria.
In a news release, Ward said the coqui frog is becoming more of a nuisance in Hawai'i Kai.
"We want to get the word out . . . (on) its impact on the quality of life," Ward said.
Coqui frogs can be very loud, making calls that reach 80 decibels at night.
"The bottom line is that this is a quality of life issue and educating the public on the coqui frog is essential to keeping the frogs at bay," Ward said. "If not, the coqui will multiply exponentially and keep residents up at night or they will have to talk on the phone in their closets like they do on the Big Island."
