UH women lose at Idaho, 66-50

The University of Hawai'i women's basketball team completed its two-game road trip with a 66-50 loss to Idaho yesterday in a Western Athletic Conference game at Moscow, Idaho.

Tara Hittle scored a career-high 17 points and Dita Liepkalne added 12 for the Rainbow Wahine, who were coming off a victory over Utah State on Friday to end an eight-game losing streak.

Idaho improved to 8-10 overall and 5-2; Hawai'i fell to 4-17 and 1-7.

Charlotte Otero scored 15 points for Idaho, which had four players in double-figures.

Rachele Kloke added 13, Alana Curtis had 12, and 2008 Punahou School graduate Shaena Kuehu had 11 points and six rebounds.

Kuehu finished 4 of 7 from the field, including 2 of 4 from 3-point range, in 37 minutes.

The Vandals led 33-26 at halftime.

Catherine Cho's 3-pointer with 16:26 left pulled Hawai'i within 35-34, but Idaho responded with a 27-12 run to put the game away.

Idaho finished 19 of 44 from the field, including 11 of 23 from 3-point range. The Vandals also made 17 of 18 free-throw attempts.

Hawai'i was 22 of 54, including 3 of 9 from 3-point range. UH made just 3 of 5 from the line.

WOMEN'S TOP 25

No. 16 Texas 58, No. 4 Baylor 55: Kathleen Nash had 11 points and 10 rebounds, and visiting Texas (15-5, 3-3 Big 12) bounced back from consecutive blowout losses to beat Baylor (17-3, 5-2). The Longhorns lost by 20 to No. 2 Oklahoma on Jan. 24 and lost by 14 to No. 11 Texas A&M on Wednesday.

No. 5 Auburn 66, LSU 55: Alli Smalley scored 21 points, hitting all five of her 3-point attempts, and visiting Auburn (22-1, 6-1 Southeastern Conference) beat LSU (11-8, 4-3). Smalley made three quick 3s to open the second half and helped Auburn turn a five-point halftime deficit into a 32-30 lead.

No. 9 Stanford 68, UCLA 51: Jillian Harmon scored 17 points to help Stanford (17-4, 8-1 Pac-10) win its 24th consecutive game at home with a victory over UCLA (14-6, 5-4). Kayla Pedersen added 13 points for the Cardinal, and Nnemkadi Ogwumike had 11 points and 10 rebounds.

No. 10 North Carolina 98, North Carolina Central 45: Italee Lucas scored 17 of her 19 points in the first half to help host North Carolina (19-3) beat North Carolina Central (8-15). Rashanda McCants added 14 points for the Tar Heels, who scored the game's first 14 points.

No. 12 Florida 94, Arkansas 78: Sha Brooks scored 25 points and had a career-high 10 assists, and visiting Florida (20-2, 6-1 Southeastern Conference) hit a school-record 13 3-pointers to beat Arkansas (12-9, 1-6).

No. 15 Ohio State 59, Indiana 51: Star Allen scored 21 points and Jantel Lavender added 17, and each had two baskets in a 15-3 surge to end the half, to lead host Ohio State (18-3, 9-1 Big Ten) over Indiana (15-5, 8-3).

No. 19 Virginia 88, Longwood 50: Lyndra Littles scored 13 of her 17 points in the first half to help host Virginia (18-4) rout Longwood (6-14).

No. 20 Vanderbilt 88, Alabama 64: Christina Wirth scored 21 points and host Vanderbilt (17-5, 6-1 Southeastern Conference) routed Alabama (12-10, 0-7).

No. 23 Xavier 74, St. Bonaventure 59: Ta'Shia Phillips scored 15 points and grabbed 21 rebounds to lead host Xavier (19-4, 7-0 Atlantic 10) over St. Bonaventure (15-6, 4-2).

MEN'S TOP 25

No. 1 Duke 79, Virginia 54: Gerald Henderson scored 16 of his 18 points in the first half to lead host Duke (19-2, 6-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) past Virginia (7-10, 1-5). Nolan Smith added 15 points on 7-of-10 shooting for the first-place Blue Devils.

Penn St. 72, No. 9 Michigan St. 68: Talor Battle scored a career-high 29 points and Jamelle Cornley had 16 to lead visiting Penn State (17-5, 6-3 Big Ten) over Michigan (17-4, 7-2). Battle was 11-for-19 from the field and 6-for-12 from 3-point range.

No. 19 Illinois 62, Iowa 54: Mike Tisdale scored 18 points and host Illinois (18-4, 6-3 Big Ten) rebounded from its worst offensive showing in more than two decades by hanging on to beat Iowa (12-10, 2-7). Illinois was held to its lowest point total in 24 years in a 59-36 loss at Minnesota on Thursday.

No. 21 Villanova 71, Cincinnati 50: Dante Cunningham scored 21 points, Scottie Reynolds added 11 and host Villanova (17-4, 5-3 Big East) beat Cincinnati (14-8, 4-5). Villanova extended its winning streak to 25 at The Pavilion, its 6,500-seat arena.

WAC MEN

Boise State 85, Houston Baptist 64: Kurt Cunningham scored 16 points to help lead visiting Boise State (15-6) over Houston Baptist (2-20). Paul Noonan scored 13 points, and Mark Sanchez, Aaron Garner and Ike Okoye had 11 points apiece for Boise State. Jamar Greene added 10 points. Sanchez pulled down 11 rebounds and had five assists.
