Surf: North Shore may reach 5-8 feet today

Advertiser Staff

Surf is on the rise along the north and west shores of Oahu, the National Weather Service said.

Surf along north-facing shores is expected to increase to 5 to 8 feet today, forecasters said.

Surf along west-facing shores is expected to build to 3 to 5 feet by later today.

Surf along east-facing shores will be 3 to 5 feet through today, while south-facing shores will likely see surf of 1 to 2 feet today.

Outlook through Saturday, Feb. 7: A moderate to large northwest swell will arrive late today and peak on Tuesday, with maximum surf heights near advisory levels.

A large, long-period northwest swell is slated for late Wednesday and Thursday, with surf heights peaking above advisory levels Friday.

Advisory level surf is also a possibility between tonight and Wednesday for the east facing shores exposed to a northeast swell. This swell will be locally generated in association with the expected strong and gusty trade winds.
