Moms, if you've been thinking about doing the Great Aloha Run on Feb. 16 but you've felt intimidated, weren't sure what to do with your keiki, or just haven't wanted to go it alone, Hawaii MomsLikeMe.com might have your answer.
Our Web site is putting together a group of moms (with some of their mates and kids in tow) to do the 8.15-mile route from Aloha Tower to Aloha Stadium.
Wednesday is the deadline to join the group. Any mom who registers officially with the Great Aloha Run and is a site user on hawaii.momslikeme.com (a free Web site) is welcome to jump in and bring her significant other and children.
Not all the moms in the group are running the run, per se - in fact, most will be walking, and several are packing their keiki in strollers. One mom, in fact, has signed up with her husband to bring all seven of their keiki.
The goal for the Hawaii MomsLikeMe.com team is simply to participate as a group and move at whatever pace makes the moms happy.
HOW TO JOIN
To become an official member, you must follow these steps:
1. Register and pay your entry fee for the Great Aloha Run via its official Web site, www.greataloharun.com. (If you are not officially registered with the Great Aloha Run, you cannot be part of the Hawaii MomsLikeMe.com group.)
2. Next, go to Hawaii MomsLikeMe.com (http://hawaii.momslikeme.com) and post your information in the "official" Great Aloha Run discussion thread. A link will appear on the home page every day through Wednesday, then frequently through the day of the run.
3. Bookmark and check back with that thread often, as it will be the main channel for information as the team sets logistics and details for race day.
RACE-DAY PLAN
The tentative plan is to have all Hawaii MomsLike Me.com team members meet at a location to be announced. Group members will be encouraged to walk at least the first 3 miles together.
Moms who want to mix things up can then peel off to run 2 miles, walk a mile, then run the final 2 miles. Moms who prefer to run the entire course can take off at will.
Recommended attire: pink, of course, to match the Web site's trademark color scheme.
