Kiddie movies, music just won't cut it in '10
Since we're not just heading into a new year, but a new decade, I'm going to buck tradition and make some resolutions.
This will be the year that I commit my kids' birthdays to memory. After almost 10 years of check-writing in the 21st century, I should be able to remember that my daughter was born in the 2000s, not the 1900s, and that my son has two 6s in his birthdate, not three.
Remembering my own birthday isn't a problem, but this year I'm going to remember my age. I watch the Disney Channel, listen to Miley Cyrus and read young adult novels, not because I like them, but because my kids do. It's time for them to learn what I enjoy, too. They might never accept that cover songs rarely improve on the originals; or that not that long ago, all vampires were evil, or even that movies were good long before computer-generated imaging.
I'll probably fail, but at least I can look forward to a good soundtrack and better storylines in 2010.
