The four major champions of last season’s PGA Tour have committed to play in January’s Sony Open in Hawai‘i.
Masters champion Angel Cabrera, U.S. Open winner Lucas Glover, British Open winner Stewart Cink and PGA Championship winner Y.E. Yang will play in the Jan. 14-17 event at Waialae Country Club.
Also in the field will be Corey Pavin, the 2010 Ryder Cup captain.
Defending Sony champions Zach Johnson (2009), K.J. Choi (2008), Paul Goydos (2007), David Toms (2006) and Jerry Kelly (2002) also have committed to play.
Tadd Fujikawa, Dean Wilson and Parker McLachlin will be among the competitors from Hawai‘i.
Fujikawa, a Moanalua High alum, and Wilson, a long-time pro from Castle High, both received sponsor’s exemptions. McLachlin, a Punahou alum, is in because he won the Legends Reno-Tahoe Open in 2008, giving him a two-year exemption to play in any PGA Tour event.
David Ishii, who won the Hawaiian Open in 1990; TJ Kua, who won the lone amateur Sony qualifying spot Monday and who is Ishii’s nephew, and Kevin Hayashi, the Aloha PGA section’s top player, also will play.
