Diamond Head Classic: UNLV runs away from SMU early, wins 67-53

Tre'von Willis and Anthony Marshall scored 12 points apiece and UNLV used a 22-2 first-half run to beat SMU 67-53 in a Diamond Head Classic first-round game tonight.
The Rebels (11-1) led 42-19 at the half and by as many as 28 with 10:12 to play. The Mustangs (4-4) shot just 23 percent in the first half and were only 2 of 15 behind the arc for the game.
UNLV, which led throughout, forced 21 SMU turnovers and recorded 11 steals. The Rebels were 7 of 14 on 3-pointers and outscored SMU 32-5 in bench points.
Chace Stanback scored 11 points, and Matt Shaw added 10 for the Rebels.
SMU's Derek Williams led all players with 18 points.
The Mustangs cut it to 65-53 on a Papa Dia putback to cap a 20-4 run with 1:08 left.
