Hawaii Public Radio will next month broadcast an “Arts in Crisis” presentation given last week by Michael Kaiser, president of The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington D.C.
Air dates: 6 p.m. Jan. 3 on KHPR 88.1, KKUA 90.7 and KANO 91.1 “Business of the Arts;” and at 5 p.m. Jan. 5 on KIPO 89.3. Following the air dates, the recording will be posted on the Hawaii Public Radio website for about five weeks.
Kaiser addressed challenges facing non-profit performing arts organizations, ranging from board development and marketing to budgeting, during a presentation at Mission Memorial Auditorium, near Honolulu Hale.
Kaiser, who has headed The Kennedy Center since January 2001, has expanded the educational and artistic programming for our nation’s center for the performing arts. He is considered a national authority in arts management and administration, and is otherwise known as the “turnaround king.”
In February, he created “Arts in Crisis: A Kennedy Center Initiative,” a program to provide free arts management consulting to non-profit performing arts organizations. The program provides free and confidential planning assistance in areas that are of critical importance to sustaining a performing arts organization in a troubled economy.
Hawai‘i Arts Alliance, in its role as the Hawai‘i member of the Kennedy Center Alliance for Arts Education Network, hosted Kaiser’s presentation in partnership with the Mayor’s Office of Culture and the Arts, and the Oahu Kennedy Center Partner in Education, Honolulu Theatre for Youth.
