UCLA starting offensive lineman Kai Maiava, a 2007 Baldwin High alum from Wailuku, is academically ineligible for next Tuesday’s EagleBank Bowl, coach Rick Neuheisel said to the Los Angeles Times.

Maiava is the team’s starting center and will miss the bowl game against Temple at Washington.
The Times also reported today that reserve guard Stanley Hasiak, a freshman from Kapolei, was sent home for personal reasons.
Neuheisel told the Times “it’s disappointing” that Maiava and reserve tight end Morrell Presley aren’t eligible. He declined comment on Hasiak.
