Big Island fireworks permits go on sale Saturday
The Hawaii Fire Department announced today that fireworks permits for New Year’s will be issued beginning Saturday at limited locations. The sites are:

Each permit, which costs $25, will entitle the holder to purchase 5,000 individual firecrackers. Permits will be issued to a person 18 years of age or older and are nontransferable and nonrefundable.
Setting off fireworks is allowed only between 9 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and 1 a.m. on New Year’s Day. Permits must be visibly displayed at the site of use on the day at the time of the firing, the fire department said, and people who fail to follow the rules may have their permit revoked.

Permits are not required for novelties and paperless firecrackers.
