Sea Life Park Hawaii tomorrow is offering a "Snow by the Sea" event where kids can build a snowman, make snow angels and even have a snowball fight. The park brought in 14 tons of snow for the frozen tropical event. The chance to play in it from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and meet Santa is free with park admission. Call 259-7933 for tickets.

Kaua'i isn't mentioned by name in "Avatar," but a few minutes of the big-budget film was shot on the Garden Isle. One of the locations for the movie was the Coco Palms Resort, including a scene of the storefronts that recently burned in a fire, the Kaua'i Office of Economic Development said earlier this week in a news release. Also in the film are shots from above the Keahua Arboretum in Wailua Homesteads. Kauai Film Commissioner Art Umezu stated in the release that "Avatar" director James Cameron and five actors, including Sigourney Weaver, spent about five days filming on the Garden Isle in February 2007. Kaua'i gets a little more exposure from two TV productions that will be shown next month. "Dinocroc vs. Supergator," produced by Roger Corman, is scheduled to premier on the Sci-Fi Channel in mid-January and "Destination Golf: Hawaii Special" will play 12 times in January on The Golf Channel.

Two movies to check out: "Up in the Air," starring George Clooney (opening here today), and Clint Eastwood's Nelson Mandela drama "Invictus," which took in just$9.1 million last weekend. Both are generating Oscar buzz. Morgan Freeman is perfectly cast as Mandela. Matt Damon stars as the rugby captain for South Africa, but that role could have been filled by you or me. Freeman — along with part-time Maui resident Eastwood — are the key to a gripping story that will keep you in your seat through the final credit.

Speaking of Eastwood,The Maui News reports he'll begin shooting parts of "Hereafter," a supernatural thriller along the lines of "The Sixth Sense," on the Valley Isle in January.

Wet'n'Wild Hawaii has invited 100 families at the Hawaii Institute of Human Services to The Kidz Christmas Karnival tomorrow. Today, it is hosting Teacher's Appreciation Day. Teachers get in free with valid DOE identification.

Sunset on the Beach returns tomorrow and Monday in Waikíkí. The celebrations start at 4 p.m. Tomorrow's movie "Monsters vs. Aliens" will be preceded by a 28-minute documentary, "Life For A Child." Monday's movie is"The Express."
