Honolulu's Larry Redulla is on a five-year plan when it comes to winning the Pigskin Picks contest.

"(I) won five years ago. It took me five years to win again," said Redulla, 69, who said he graduated the same year (1958) as former Gov. Ben Cayetano.

Redulla correctly picked the winners of all 15 games and then won the tiebreaker. He wins a trip for two to Las Vegas and $100 worth of pizza from Papa John's.

Redulla's strategy is simple: Devour all the information possible on football, from the odds in the paper, to listening to the radio, to watching TV. Of course, submitting a bunch of ballots also helps.

"I know most of the teams; how they're playing; which ones are hot," he said. "I go through all the calculations and this is the first time it came out."

Now that he's won twice, will he keep playing for another five years?

"(I) said this the last time I'll do this. (I) stay up all night," he said.

His interest in football started at a young age and he stayed passionate despite getting lit up while playing junior varsity football for Farrington. It's a play he said he can never forget, even till this day.

"It was the last year they didn't have the facemask and my fullback ran me over," he said. "I turned around and he hit me in the nose. I was in a daze. I can never forget that. My nose was smashed. I had to grab it and hold it in place. I look in the mirror (now), it's a little crooked."
