Honolulu Mayor Mufi Hannemann will be in Washington, D.C., tomorrow to meet with the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation and other federal officials about Honolulu's rail transit project, city spokesman Bill Brennan said.

The mayor will also attend a White House holiday reception hosted by President Obama.

Hannemann will return to Honolulu on Tuesday, Brennan said.

REWARD UPPED IN KAUA'I SEAL KILLING

LIHUE, Kaua'i — A private organization is adding $3,000 to a $5,000 reward offered by the federal government for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the April killing of a 5-year-old male Hawaiian monk seal, found shot to death on a remote beach near Kaumakani.

Dr. Carl Berg of The Surfrider Foundation's Kauai Chapter said a previous reward led to a conviction in another seal killing, so the group wants to try again.

10-YEAR SENTENCE IN COPPER THEFTS

An O'ahu man at the center of a copper theft ring has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Friday's sentencing of Joseph Tano for criminal conspiracy to commit theft and money laundering came after a plea agreement. The ring allegedly stole some 72,000 pounds of lightpole wiring from O'ahu's H-1 and H-2 freeways.

Two other key members of the ring were sentenced earlier to 10 years each.
