Porcelain artist Dorothy Feibleman will teach a three-day course on working with colored clay at the Honolulu Academy of Arts next month.

Feibleman, whose delicate sake cups are featured at the annual Joy of Sake Festival, will offer a session on nerikomi, a technique she uses to create translucent, intricately patterned pieces. The workshops will also look at methods like textured imaging and working with slips.

An American, Feibleman is the only foreigner to take top awards for sake cups in Japan. Her work is included in the Virotian and Albert Museum in London, the Stuttgart Museum in Germany, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and The Contemporary Museum in Honolulu.

The $390 course will be offered in the Honolulu Academy of Art Center at Linekona Jan. 8 to 11, with registration on a first come, first-served basis. Call 532-8741 for information.
