Police have charged a Waikíkí man with terroristic threatening following a traffic incident Wednesday at Waimea Bay that prompted police to close Kamehameha Highway for more than four hours.

Daniel Nichols, 24, of a Wai Nani Way address, was being held on $100,000 bail.

Police arrested Nichols after he allegedly was seen driving a silver Audi 62 mph in a 35 mph zone on Joseph P. Leong Highway in Hale'iwa.

Officers followed the Audi and tried to block it from exiting Waimea Bay Beach Park. The Audi's driver gunned the engine and drove at a police officer, forcing the officer to dive out of the way, a police affidavit said.

The Audi hit a pickup truck, a rock wall at the park and a HandiVan on Kamehameha Highway.

Police arrested Nichols after he climbed out of the car, the affidavit said.
