The Hawaii Youth Symphony will next week present the state’s only chamber performance that includes ensembles of students from multiple schools.
Thirty-one students — ages 14-17 years, representing 11 schools — will present works they have been preparing with their coaches from the Honolulu Symphony.
The free performance is set for 5:30 p.m. in Mid-Pacific Institute’s Bakken Auditorium, 2445 Kaala Street. Entry to the recital is free. There are no tickets for the concert and doors will open at 5 p.m.
The Hawaii Youth Symphony, one of the largest and oldest youth symphonies in the country, is Hawaii’s only statewide youth orchestra program. Since 1964, HYS has trained children, ages 8-18, to develop and showcase their musical skills.
