Kansas, Texas and Villanova held the top three spots in The Associated Press men's college basketball poll for the second straight week yesterday. For the third consecutive week at least three teams moved into the Top 25.

The Jayhawks (7-0), who beat Alcorn State and UCLA last week, were again a runaway choice at No. 1, receiving all but three first-place votes from the 65-member national media panel.

Texas (6-0), which beat Southern California in its only game last week, and Villanova (8-0), which beat Drexel and Maryland, both received one first-place vote.

Kentucky (8-0), which beat then-No. 10 North Carolina on Saturday, was fourth, switching places with Purdue (7-0).

West Virginia, Syracuse, which got the other No. 1 vote, Duke, Tennessee and Florida rounded out the top 10.

Wisconsin, which moved in at No. 20, No. 23 Texas Tech, No. 24 Georgia Tech and No. 25 Mississippi moved into the rankings this week.

MARYLAND WOMEN ENTER POLL AT NO. 25

Maryland entered the AP women's basketball Top 25 poll for the first time this season, while Connecticut remains a unanimous No. 1 for the 20th consecutive poll.

UConn received all 40 first-place votes yesterday from the national media panel.

Stanford remained No. 2, followed by Notre Dame, Tennessee, LSU and Baylor.

Maryland entered the poll at No. 25.

MEN'S TOP 25 RESULTS

No. 2 Texas 107, Long Beach State 74: Avery Bradley scored 17 points, leading six Longhorns in double figures, and host Texas (7-0) routed Long Beach State (4-4). Texas reached a season-high point total.

No. 12 Michigan State 69, Citadel 56: Kalin Lucas had 17 points and visiting Michigan State (7-2) beat the Citadel (6-5). The Bulldogs finished 12 of 20 from 3-point range.

No. 16 Texas A&M 75, North Texas 65: Donald Sloan scored 21 points to lead four teammates in double figures as host Texas A&M (8-1) beat North Texas (5-3). Bryan Davis added 15 points for the Aggies.
