The city has opened emergency shelters and activated an operation center this afternoon in preparation of possible evacuations from the high surf expected tomorrow for all north and west facing shores.

The city departments of Emergency Management, Parks and Recreation and Transportation Services, the American Red Cross, Oahu Transit Services, TheBus, Hawaiian Humane Society and H5 Hawaii will open three evacuation shelters on Oahu. The shelters are as a precaution due to the high surf forecast by the National Weather Service.
Those who go to the shelters will need to provide their own food, water, clothing, medical supplies and personal items for two days, the city says.
Shelter locations are:
•Liliuokalani Church
•Sunset Beach Community Center. Pets are accepted at this shelter, but they must be on leashes or in pet carriers.
•Waianae District Parks. Pets are accepted at this shelter.
Shuttle buses will roam around the Leeward Coast on Farrington Highway from Yokohama Bay to Nanakuli Beach Park from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. looking for anyone needing shelter. The buses will be displaying the word "evacuation" on the front and are free to anyone needing the transport.
Individuals should bring what they can carry on one trip to an evacuation center. Pets must be on leashes.
