The Board of Water Supply said crews are responding to a water main break on Farrington Highway between Nanakuli and Haleakala avenues. A private contractor working in the area accidentally damaged the 24-inch water main at about 10:30 a.m. A trouble shooter is working to isolate the main break and turn off water to the affected area, the Board of Water Supply said.
Residents from Honokai Hale to Makaha are asked to conserve water and use it for essential needs only — cooking, drinking and personal hygiene. Residents are also asked to refrain from doing laundry, watering lawns, washing cars and other nonessential water activities. The Board of Water Supply said it is unknown how long conservation will be needed..

The 24-inch water main that was damaged brings approximately 60 percent of the water to the Leeward Coast.

Both town-bound lanes of Farrington Highway are closed in the area. Special-duty police are contraflowing the west-bound lanes so that there is one open lane of traffic in each direction.
