Osaka, Hawaii prep teams to play in baseball tourney

     • Invitee voting begins for Eddie Aikau meet

    A goodwill baseball series between 15-and-under teams from Japan and top high school teams from O'ahu is scheduled for tomorrow and Sunday at Les Murakami Stadium.

    O'ahu teams involved will be Punahou (two squads), Kamehameha, Mid-Pacific, Kailua and Kalani.

    The contingent from Osaka will feature 48 players, two coaches, along with officials and family members. The Japan team will be split into two squads.

    Admission is free.

    SATURDAY

    8:30 a.m.—Sluggers/2007 Cooperstown Champion vs. Kansai Renmei B.

    11—Kailua High vs. Kansai Renmei A

    2 p.m.—Mid Pacific vs. Kansai Renmei A

    4:30—Kamehameha vs. Kansai Renmei B

    SUNDAY

    8:30 a.m.—Punahou vs. Kansai Renmei A

    11—Punahou B vs. Kansai Renmei B

    2 p.m.—Kalani High vs. Kansai Renmei A

    4:30—Kane'ohe District Little League vs. Kansai Renmei B

    SKATEBOARDERS GATHER

    The 16th annual T&C/LRG Sunburn Classic is tomorrow at A'ala Park in Chinatown.

    The event is open to skateboarders of all experience levels. Entry fee is $5 and includes a T-shirt.

    Skaters can compete in four age divisions (13 and under, 14-17, 18 and over and sponsored). Preliminary rounds will be held with the top scorers advancing to the finals. Winners will receive prize packs that include skateboards, T-shirts, hats and other skate apparel.

    Skate demos and autograph signings will be done by LRG skate members Adelmo Jr., Jack Curtain and Rodrigo Tx.

    Entry forms are available at T&C Surf locations and www.TCSurf.com. Entries will only be accepted on the morning of the event starting at 8:30 a.m.

    SOCCER HITS THE SAND

    The Junior Hawaii Sand Soccer Championships, featuring 50 teams and more than 500 players, will be held Sunday at Fort DeRussy Beach.

    The event will feature novice through experienced soccer enthusiasts from U13 to adult and a junior tournament for U8 to U12.

    Competition will be five on a side in various age groups and will go from 7 a.m. to about 6 p.m.

    BOYS GET VOLLEYBALL GOLD

    Kamehameha setter Daylan Chock was a member of the USA Select Blue Team, which won the gold medal in the Boys National Youth Division at the USA Volleyball High Performance Championships in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. Chock, 16, was the only Hawai'i boy chosen in his age group to be a part of the Boys Select A1 Team.

    Kaiser graduate Chase Suzumoto was part of the USA Youth Blue Team, which won the gold medal in the Boys International Youth Division. Tino Reyes, former University of Hawai'i men's volleyball assistant coach, was the team's assistant coach.
