Hawaii publicist Elissa Josephsohn dies at 60

Advertiser Staff

HONOLULU – Hawaii entertainment, restaurant and community publicist Elissa Josephsohn has died of primary peritoneal cancer at age 60.

Josephsohn’s last major theatrical project was bringing “Mamma Mia!” to the Blaisdell Center for three sold-out weeks. The first night was a benefit for the Kapi’olani Women’s Cancer Center.
When Josephsohn was diagnosed with primary peritoneal cancer, a rare form of the disease that is treated as ovarian cancer, she was determined to fight it. She had doctors both in Hawaii at Kapi’olani Women’s Cancer Center as well as from Cedars Sinai Women’s Cancer Center in Los Angeles. With their help she battled the disease for more than two years.
Plans are under way to celebrate Josephsohn’s life and legacy in an event at Hawaii Theater.
The Women’s Cancer Center at Kapi’olani has set up a permanent fund, the Elissa Josephsohn Spirit Fund, to continue Josephsohn’s work in spreading the word on combating ovarian cancer, and to provide massage, spa, entertainment and other quality-of-life services to its patients.
In lieu of flowers and gifts donations may be made to: The Kapi’olani Health Foundation, 1319 Punahou St., Honolulu, HI 96826 with checks notated “The Elissa Josephsohn Spirit Fund.”
