L&L Drive-Inn will be offering $1 steak plate lunches as well as other giveaways for a limited time Tuesday at its Ke‘eaumoku Street store inside Wal-Mart to benefit the Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association’s “Save Our Sports” (SOS) fundraising program.
Proceeds from this one-day event will be donated to the HHSAA SOS fund, which was created by HHSAA executive director Keith Amemiya to help Hawai‘i public high school athletics hit by severe budget cuts.
The steak will be USDA Choice Top Sirloin and the plate lunch will include two scoops of rice and one scoop macaroni salad. Pepsi drinks also will be 10 cents during the time of the sale.
A total of 1,000 steak plates will be available on first come first serve basis with one plate and one drink per customer. Special tickets will be given out to account for the 1,000.
The benefit sale will start at 11 a.m. though a store official said they anticipate patrons lining up as early as 5:30 a.m.
However, any patron donating $100 or more will not need to stand in line. Just see Eddie Flores, president of L&L Drive-Inn and L&L Hawaiian Barbecue, or his assistant, Brandon T. Dela Cruz.
“Every steak I sell, I’ll lose 3-4 bucks,” Flores said. “But hopefully, this will get Keith a lot of press.”
Flores also said the first 20 people in line will receive tickets to Ten Feet and the first 300 will receive a $200 off Hawaiian Airlines coupon to the Philippines.
