Firefighters did not know if the dog was injured from the fall, but did hear it barking before darkness fell, hampering firefighters efforts to rescue the animal, said Honolulu Fire Department Capt. Earle Kealoha.
The hiker was not injured from the hike, which at the top of Waialae Iki Ridge off Okoa Street, Kealoha said. Firefighters responded to the call for help at 6:40 p.m. They will return tomorrow to rescue the dog.
